Mike Speech

Rapper Killer Mike’s Speech during Atlanta presented a message to the community and protesters of racial injustice. Killer Mike message was given to bring awareness to the injustice the black community has suffered and to call for a change, while calling for change he focused on not only encouraging the people from Atlanta but people in America to take peaceful action. Mike said “Now is the time to plot, plan, strategize, mobilize.” in response to all the brutal rioting and building damage going on He is encouraging others to acknowledge what is happening currently so before doing and make sure they are approaching the situation to try not and only react in emotion but logically with a plan. Mike towards the end of his speech said “I want you to go home. I want you to talk to 10 of your friends. I want you guys to come up with real solutions.” when Mike is speaking he is motivating peaceful and smart actions and while not agreeing with violent actions people take he is not against the protest people take part in. Mike maintained a message in this speech that was calling for a change and awareness. “We need a review board here because we need to get ahead of it before an officer does some stupid shit. We need to get ahead of it. That’s my recommendation to my mayor and my chief. Let’s get a review board. Let’s get ahead of it, and let’s give them power.” Mike was able to portray the importance, urgency and violence of George Floyd’s case was by giving examples of how this horrid event took place, “He casually put his knee on a human being’s neck for nine minutes as he died like a zebra in the clutch of a lion’s jaw. And, we watch it like murder porn over and over again.” mike words this in a way that can change a persons perspective. It’s eye-opening to him but to anyone no matter if you are Person of color.
